Four companies kicked off negotiations last week to win control of Block 1 on the banks of Lake Albert

Withdrawn from Tullow Oil and Heritage by government decision on 17 October last year (a procedure that Tullow has protested), Block 1 on the eastern edge of Ituri province could soon be awarded to others.

On 15 January the staff of oil minister Lambert Mende negotiated throughout the day with a consortium made up of four companies. They are Divine Consortium, which consists of four South African private firms led by Divine Inspiration Group and whose technical partner is reported to be state-owned PetroSA; H Oil, a firm owned by Jacques and Alvaro Hachuel; and the Congolese groups Congo Petroleum and Gas SPRL and Sud Oil Sprl.
