In response to the H Oil Group’s petition for the area, the Sudanese National Petroleum Commission (NPC) advised today that it has created a new oil concession, Block Ea.
John Luk, South Sudan’s minister of industry and mining, said the new block is a long, narrow strip of land that crosses four South Sudan states to the west of four other blocks that have previously been awarded - Total’s so-far unsuccessful Blocks B and C, and Petronas Carigali’s Block 5b, and its Thar Jath Block 5a, currently producing approximately 40,000 b/d.
“We have adjusted coordinates to permit others that may be interested in the acreage to make bids on it as well, but H Oil has asked for the entire block,” Luk said, adding that a decision is due on H Oil’s application in May.
